Polyethylene glycol is white crystal or colorless transparent liquid, with a slight special smell and no odor. Melting point 64-66 °C, boiling point >250°C, Tg-67, density 1.27 g/mL at 25 °C, vapor density >1 (vs air), vapor pressure <0.01 mm Hg (20 °C), refractive index n20/D 1.469, flash point 270 °C, solubility H2O: 50mg/mL, clear, colorless, specific gravity 1.128, PH 5.5-7.0 (25ºC, 50mg/mL in H2O). Soluble in water, soluble in many organic solvents, such as alcohol, ketone , glycerol and aromatic hydrocarbons; Insoluble in most aliphatic hydrocarbons and ethers.

Adding into the pulping can increase the viscosity of the slurry, prevent the fiber from adhering to each other, improve the evenness of the paper, reduce the beating power consumption, and increase the physical strength.
